London Staycation Day 4 – A Lazy Hazy Morning at Primrose Hill

I was relieved this morning to wake up to a slightly cooler day than yesterday. It was still fairly muggy so I felt that fresh air and greenery would do me some good. I packed a blanket, my book and some fresh raspberries and headed off to Primrose Hill.

Primrose Hill is a lovely park – bordering the north side of Regents Park, it has one of the best panoramic views of London. From the top of the hill you can see all the buildings of the London skyline – the London Eye, the Shard, Canary Wharf and the BT Tower.

It’s a great spot for a picnic, dog and child-friendly and near to the London Zoo. The little “village” high street, which begins on Regents Park Road is picturesque and home to an array of little shops, cafes and restaurants and a fantastic pub called The Queen’s which I highly recommend!

Lemonia is a Primrose Hill institution that has been serving Greek food for over 30 years! It is always packed so booking in advance is highly recommended. For something a little fancier and traditional there is Odette’s, another Primrose Hill institution – open since the late 1970s. Further down the high street you will find Greenberry Cafe, a lovely, dog-friendly cafe that does wonderful breakfasts and weekend brunches as well as a good all-day menu.

The high street is dotted with little shops as well as a butcher, a grocer, even a Spake NK.  Graham & Green is one of my favorites, a quaint little nook full of interesting home accessories.

After a short walk along the high street I found a shady spot under a tree where I spread my blanket and sat down to read my book, listening to the birds chirping and the far off laughter of children and joyful dogs playing in the long grass.
